Losing a dog is like losing a family member and a best friend all at once.  The grief is very very real.  It is also, sadly, unavoidable for dog lovers; in almost all cases, will out live our dogs and loving them includes letting them go when it is time.  

There are no words to take the pain of losing a dog away, but there are some that can lend comfort, perspective and hope.
