Veterinary Pet Insurance

Should You Have Pet Insurance?

Vet bills today can be staggering so the answer, for most dog owners, is yes, you should have pet insurance.
The odds on any dog making it through its lifetime without any illness or injury are incredibly slim, and in this day and age, even relatively minor conditions can be very expensive to fix.  Major illnesses, accidents or injuries run in to thousands of dollars very quickly.
Chronic problems, resulting from illness or injury, such as joint pain and arthritis, allergic reactions, heart conditions, colitis and other digestive disorders, metabolic disorders, etc. can haunt your dog, and your bank account, repeatedly over the years.
If you have pet insurance, you can rest assured, knowing you can provide your dog with all of the vet care he will need in his life, without finances getting in the way.
For those dog owners who can afford to cover even major vet bills, when they happen and without hardship, pet insurance may be optional.  For most, given epidemic level pet illnesses today, plus the element of “dogs will be dogs”, and the skyrocketing cost of veterinary care, pet insurance has become a necessary expense.
There are many different pet insurance companies, and plans with varying rates and coverage.  Talk to your vet and to other dog owners and do some research, to determine which plan is best suited for you and your dog.
Keep in mind that pre-existing conditions will not be covered by pet insurance, so it is best to get coverage before your dog has any medical issues.
